Malmesbury During The Childhood of Thomas Hobbes
Well known local historian and author, Tony McAleavy, will be giving an illustrated talk about Malmesbury during the time Thomas Hobbes and his family lived here.
Starting with his birth in rural Malmesbury during the time of the Spanish Armada in 1588, his reprobate father and other family, then to the time Thomas took a radically different path to Magdalen, Oxford University. You will hear how living in his home town helped shape the great man he was to become.

The talk will start at 7.30pm, please arrive from 7pm onwards. There will be a bar available to purchase drinks.

MALMESBURY
MALMESBURY is a vibrant, market town, steeped in history going back to medieval times. Currently home to many famous & popular musical, cultural, and festival events throughout the year, visitors can browse the charming streets with independent retailers, or stop at one of the lively cafes, restaurants, pubs, and bars.
Attractions to visit include the stunning 12th century Malmesbury Abbey, 15th century Market Cross and the Athelstan Museum with a painting of Malmesbury Abbey by JMW Turner. There are also lovely walks along the River Avon.
