Malmesbury Town Council and Malmesbury Town Team joint statement following the government’s announcement of phased re-opening plans

Malmesbury Town Team, in partnership with Malmesbury Town Council, has been working with local retailers and businesses to provide the best support we can to our local business community during the COVID 19 emergency. Following the government’s announcement of the phased re-opening of shops, businesses and the hospitality sector on Sunday 10 May, we are taking steps to form a Retailer and Business Community Task Force and are working together to develop plans to ensure Malmesbury High Street and other key retail and business areas are as welcoming and safe as possible while physical distancing rules apply. We are taking expert advice and we are looking at widening some pavement areas, changing some parking arrangements and providing helpful signage. We expect to be submitting our initial plans to Wiltshire Council for their permission and action within the next week and would hope to be introducing some initial changes as quickly as possible. All actions would be on a trial basis. Further updates will be given over the next few days.

At the launch in The Old Bell Hotel on 6 November, the card was warmly welcomed by local businesses who turned out in numbers to support the launch. Over 30 businesses have signed up for what they see as a first-class local initiative and it’s anticipated 50 businesses will join the scheme ahead of the busy Christmas shopping period.
