Residents across Malmesbury are being invited to free drop-in sessions at Malmesbury Town Hall to learn more about the work and responsibilities of Malmesbury Town Council, chat about community matters, and meet their elected representatives.
Billed as ‘Cake with the Councillors’, the two events will run from 10am to midday on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 October, at the Town Hall, and people are invited to drop in whenever suits them best.
Organised by the council’s Community Engagement & Town Promotion Committee, the sessions are part of its aim to build stronger connections with local people. The drop-in sessions will offer a friendly, informal environment where residents can find out more about the Town Council, while sharing their own ideas, concerns, and feedback.
Malmesbury Mayor, Cllr Robert Hastings, said: “Whether people have lived here for years or recently moved to the area, we’d love to meet them - all are very welcome to drop in. We are really looking forward to engaging with local residents over coffee and cake. One of the strengths of Malmesbury Town Council is we don’t get involved in party politics, but arrive at decisions through open discussions and agreements.”
Representatives from every council committee will be present across both mornings to answer questions about local services and council responsibilities.
The events will also highlight opportunities for residents to play an active part in the town without becoming an elected councillor. For example, members of the community can join various active working groups focused on key local areas, such as the town’s rivers, offering a practical way to lend their skills to community projects. There will also be a chance to find out more about the many activities the council organises.
