If you’re between 11 and 25, we need your help.
There’s almost £100,000 to spend improving things for young people in the Malmesbury area.
How we spend it is up to you and people like you.
We really need you to get involved and tell us what you want to improve your free time and improve your life. Just fill in our questionnaire. If you want to find out more, follow us on Twitter and add to the debate.
Who are we? We are a group called Your Town Consultation Group and we are made up of youth leaders, teachers, parents, young people and town councillors. We have come together to give you a voice and to bid for funds that are being made available by the YMCA to provide facilities and services for young people in Malmesbury.
So where does the money come from? Way back, in the 1950's Malmesbury Borough Council (as it was called - Malmesbury Town Council now) bought the building at the back of what is now the Town Hall from the YMCA. The YMCA put that money away in trust, on the understanding that one day it would be used for the provision of facilities and services for the young people of Malmesbury. Over time the money was kind of forgotten about, until it recently came to light and the YMCA got back in touch with the Town Council to see if there was anything it could be used for. The Town Council then set about inviting people interested in the project to help form the consultation group.
So will the money be spent on promoting Christianity? No, while the YMCA is a Christian group, there is no expectation that the resulting project will promote Christianity or any form of faith or belief system. This is simply the YMCA trying to make the life of young people in Malmesbury better.
So are people from outside Malmesbury excluded? No, we want to know what young people want, no matter where they live. Malmesbury is a centre for many of the surrounding villages and it is to Malmesbury that many young people travel in order to go to school, to socialise and to work - so we want to know the opinions of every young person who lives in or regularly visits Malmesbury.
How young is young? The YMCA has given us a steer on who the money should target, and that's young people between the ages of 11 and 25. Obvioulsy the needs and wants of an 11 year old will be very different to those of a 25 year old, but we want to hear from everyone to find out just what people want, so that projects for all age groups can be considered.
What projects are we looking for? We don't know, that's why we're asking the question. Us "oldies" have our opionions as to what we think we should provide for the young people of Malmesbury - but opinions are not the ones that matter - we want your voice to be heard - so speak up - fill in the form - come to a meeting - twitter with us and others - let us know what you want in Malmesbury.
Thanks for your time.
