The historic town of Malmesbury has attracted thousands of new residents over the centuries and continues to be home to a diverse community. The wide range of local organisations, clubs and associations reflects this vibrancy and whatever your interests you are bound to find some that cater for these and perhaps tempt you to explore other activities.
The library and the Town Hall Information Office, both located in Cross Hayes, in the middle of the town, have full details of contact names and numbers and exploration of the Wiltshire Community Web-site may be of further interest. Please give your support – in return you are sure to get more out of Malmesbury than you could have imagined.
One of the principal local amenity organisations is the Malmesbury & St Paul Without Residents’ Association.
The Association exists to enhance the quality of life for residents in Malmesbury and the adjoining parish of St Paul Malmesbury Without, which embraces the smaller communities of Corston, Milbourne and Rodbourne.
Amongst its functions are the monitoring of planning applications and the subsequent submissions of support or opposition to the local authority, the checking of highway, pavement and lighting maintenance, litter problems, car parking and traffic issues, not to mention other facilities that play an important part in the service of the town. Where necessary, the Association then takes up these issues with local officers at Town Hall, District (probably until Spring 2009) or County Council levels as appropriate.
We also can offer advice on a wide range of other amenity matters or put people in direct contact with those agencies most likely to be of assistance.
For over 20 years we have been an effective voice on behalf of local residents and this has been achieved with the support of a strong membership. We can, however, only maintain this with the sustained backing of the townsfolk and as some move away we look to new-comers to help us work to retain and, indeed, improve the facilities that make Malmesbury a very attractive place in which to live.
Please do give some thought to joining our ranks. Your most important contribution is the strength we can claim in the size of our overall membership. Committee meetings are held on the second Wednesday each month in the Town Hall at 7.30 pm, when members can have their say and our Annual General Meeting takes place in the autumn. We are, of course, open to ideas, comments and suggestions at any time. Volunteers to help on the Committee are always welcome.
Click here to download a membership application form. We hope that you feel the annual subscription of just £4 could be a good investment in the future of the town. (Fill in the Standing Order Mandate and you won’t have to worry about renewing at the beginning of each year.)
