Cllr. Patrick Goldstone, Chairman of Planning and Environmental issues, will chair a P&E meeting 7pm 18th October 2011 in the Town Hall where one of the agenda items will be to decide a united strategy for the town to tackle the approach to the Planning appeal launched by White Lion Land. The Developers have lodged an appeal against Wiltshire Council’s decision to refuse a 77-home estate off Park Road in Malmesbury.
The bid by White Lion Land was turned down last month on the grounds that it was outside the town’s development boundary and that the application was premature because the county’s core strategy had not yet been agreed.
Local people in Malmesbury and Brokenborough campaigned hard against the development, pointing out it was right next to the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
They feared the single track lane to Brokenborough and the B4014 would be come a rat run and complained that the town’s infrastructure was already struggling to cope.
However White Lion Land has listed Wiltshire Council’s lack of a five-year supply of land for housing development as the first of five grounds for appeal.
