GOAL 4. Popular Support for Malmesbury Fairtrade Campaign
The Committee have organised a number of Fairtrade promotional events in and around the town to ensure that Fairtrade issues are highlighted and awareness sucured. These events have included:
A presentation to approximately 100 Malmesburians on “Making Malmesbury A Fairtrade Town” followed by a showing of the movie "
A number of other Fairtrade events have been held including:
Saturday café and market stalls in the town hall. Volunteers made and donated fair trade cakes and drinks and took turns in serving and cleaning, etc. The money made bought 16 goats from Oxfam Unwrapped.
Stall holders included Oxfam, Trade craft, Lanka Kade, a Welsh charity and a ‘Make Poverty History’ stall.
Saturday café and market stalls in St Mary’s Hall, St Mary’s Street. Again, volunteers made and donated fair trade cakes and drinks and took turns in serving and cleaning, etc. The money raised bought 12 goats from Oxfam Unwrapped.
Stall holders included Oxfam and Trade craft.
Fairtrade Day in Bristol
Members attended the Fairtrade Bus event in Bristol City.
GOAL 5. A local Steering Group is convened to ensure progress and continued commitment to the campaign
Malmesbury Fairtrade Steering Committee has a Web page which details its membership and how to get in touch.
The committee plan to holda major PR event once Fairtrade status has been awarded. This would include a Fairtrade market.
The committee will also be organising a Fairtrade stand / event at the WOMAD festival which will be held in Malmesbury in July, which typically attracts more than 40,000 people to the town.
The committee will continue to recruit more businesses to support Fairtrade, in an attemt to get all the business in Malmesbury to stock or supply at least 2 Fairtrade products.
The committee intend creating a Town Fairtrade Directory and want to get involved with promoting Fairtrade with other regional organisations.
